Experience: Head Teacher, Bing Nursery School (9 years), Director-teacher of Windmill School, Inc. - a preschool in Portola Valley - 11 years, School Board Trustee in Portola Valley - 4 years, Teacher at PAUSD Young Fives Program and Parent Education Classes - 10 years and all of them job sharing with Kathy Plock
Responsibilities in PAUSD: Lead Science Teacher in Science responsible for co-planning staff development days in science curriculum and training new Kindergarten teachers in science curriculum - in my third year
Personal: Married 30 years to John Barksdale, an architect. Parent of two children, Brie, 20 years old, a student at University of Santa Clara and Brady, a senior at Gunn. We live in a house we built ourselves (literally, 26 years ago) in the hills of Portola Valley.
Why I'm excited about the "new school": It is an opportunity to start a school with teachers who have some of the same priorities as to what makes an ideal school climate, how to challenge all children, how to foster parent participation and communication, how to build in structure to encourage teacher collaboration, how to .... I could go on for pages! The school site with its meandering creek, is a dream for poets and scientists alike.
