A
Few Highlights of Kindergarten
At Barron Park School
Outstanding Faculty
Teachers Tina Devincenzi Franceschi, Chris Morimoto,
Jeff Morris, and Grace Porras each bring extensive experience to the
classroom. A career
teacher
in the Palo
Alto schools,
Mrs. Franceschi joined Barron Park in 2003,
after teaching kindergarten at Hoover for four years and first grade
in
San Bruno and Daly City for four years. Mrs. Morimoto has
taught pre-kindergarten through second grade. She taught the summer
pre-kindergarten class for two years before joining Barron Park’s
faculty in 2003. Mr. Morris taught for 12 years in California
public schools before joining the Barron Park Staff in 2004. He has
taught Kindergarten, first, and second grade. Ms. Grace joined Barron
Park’s
faculty in 2000, after working in Los Angeles public schools
and in Mountain View. Our kindergarten teachers understand our
children and they maintain the
highest
professional standards.
Strong Curriculum
While each teacher at Barron Park School is encouraged to use creative
individual methods, all teachers share commitment to the rigorous core
academic goals
adopted by Palo Alto Schools. Every kindergarten child moves toward key
standards in all areas of the curriculum and social development.
Diversity
Barron Park School includes students and staff members from a wide range
of ethnicities, cultures, and socioeconomic groups. We hope that students
from every background can meet on safe, nurturing common ground.
Constellation Groups
Every other week, kindergartners join a small group of students from
other grades. Working with a teacher, they do group activities focused
on
building
community.
2nd/3rd Grade Buddies
Every kindergartner is paired
with a second or third grader; every other week, the students all get together
for special reading and math activities.
Celebrations
The year is full of color and life for children at our school. A few
examples: In November, an all-class “thankful book,” followed
by a class
“feast”; in February, Valentines delivered to a class “post
office”; in late January, a huge dragon for the school’s
Chinese New Year Parade.
Field Trips and Hands-On Learning
During the year, students visit a Pumpkin Patch, Fire Station, Hidden
Villa, and a professional theater production. Each room may also schedule
additional field trips depending on the particular interest of their
class.
Parent Volunteers
Parent helpers are welcomed at Barron Park School. Parents chaperone field
trips, supervise lunch times, lead special P.E. and music activities,
share cultural customs, cut, paste, and collate, and assist in all aspects
of the daily academic program.
