2001-2002 School Year

August 22, 2001
It was hard to believe school would open in a week since there was a huge dirt pile in front of the new wing and another one on the playground. The classrooms were a jumble of furniture. Strange teal pipes sprouted from the new blacktop. But the new fence and new Barron Park sign were in place.

August 25, 2001
The Saturday before school started our new lawn arrived in the form of sod on pallets. It was amazing to watch how quickly the field and the lawn in front of the Library grew until the entire field was complete. Caution signs still surrounded the playground.

October 17, 2001
Three fire fighters visited Barron Park today to tell us about their experiences and teach us how to practice fire safety at home. We all loved looking at the fire engine!

October 31, 2001: Halloween Celebration
We celebrated Halloween by dressing up in costume and parading around the playground. Our new Student Council Officers (Co-Presidents Megan and Joy, Vice President Mitchell, Co-Recorders Jordan and Stephanie, Historian Russell, and Activities Directors Hannah and Joe) organized the parade and announced the classes. This year the Barron Park staff decided to work on reading skills by dressing up as letters of the alphabet and forming words. Here are The Barron Park Bees!

Crazy Clothes December 12, 2001: Crazy Clothes Day
The Barron Park Student Council chose Crazy Clothes as the theme for our first Spirit Day of the year. There were some awfully silly outfits at school that day!

December 18, 2001
This week the 2nd grades, ELD, and Resource moved into their new classrooms. We were thrilled to see the last of the construction fences come down, revealing our remodelled old wing. The teachers had many boxes to unpack. At first the new rooms looked very bare, but after a very long and busy day, the new classrooms were ready for students. New room number signs appeared next to all of the classrooms, in words and numbers and also in Braille.

January 7, 2002
We returned from Winter Break to find that the Room 20 portable building had vanished! We were glad to have more of our playground back, but sad to see the deep ruts in our beautiful field.

Reading January 24, 2002: Stuffed Animal Day
Today stuffed animals of all shapes, sizes, and types came to school. Animals were spotted at PE and recess and in the lunch line. Some of the animals even took advantage of the classroom libraries during their visit!

February 23, 2002: 6th Annual Juana Run
Check out the One Mile Results, One Mile Results by Age Group, 8 K Results, 8 K Results by Age Group, and the Kid Results.

March 20, 2002: Crazy Hair or Hat Day
Kids of all ages participated in this Spirit Day! There were some very wild hairstyles and some pretty crazy hats at Barron Park. In fact, there were some people we barely recognized!
