At the Barron Park Ice Cream Social incoming students left their hand prints, ready to welcome them back to school on September 8, 1998.

August 5, 1998
It is now the first week in August and the BPES staff is meeting to prepare for the start of school. Stefan Dasho from the Developmental Studies Center led a two day institute: "Building a Caring and Powerful Learning Community." Shari McDaniel, Kathy Plock, and Jodi Libretti meet in a triad to discuss ideas. Supplies are arriving and being sorted into classroom boxes by our secretarial elves. Lucinda Surber’s room is mainly empty, but Larry Wongs boxes have arrived. One room of the Library is being painted but the books have arrived. Here is the first skid coming off the truck. Doug Brown helped organize moving the boxes of books into the Library. Claudia Kruger is standing in front of boxes containing 4000 books!
