August 25, 1998
Barron Park is starting to look like a real school. The books have been arranged in the Library and Jodi Libretti’s room is complete down to a hugging tree. The desks have finally been delivered to Lucinda Surber’s room and she has even found her glasses!

September 8, 1998
On the first day of school the Barron Park banner Barbara Butterworth brought us from Nepal welcomes our students to their new school. Our official Barron Park sign is finally hanging in place. Teacher Joan and Teacher Kathy relax for a moment in Room 1. Lori Schneck has organized a welcome table outside Room 2. And Room 9 is ready at last.

October 3, 1998

October 30, 1998
For our very first Halloween, the Barron Park staff appeared as crayons. Here are a few early crayons and a row with almost all of us.

December 9, 1998
The Bumble Bee was officially adopted as the mascot of Barron Park Elementary School.

January 17, 1999
The 3rd Annual Juana Run was a huge success. You can check the results of the Juana Run Event.

March 2, 1999
March 2nd was Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’s Birthday. Barron Park celebrated the joy of reading by reading to ourselves, to each other, and by listening to guest readers. Barron Park staff even wore their Cat in the Hat hats all day!

  • Ed Faulkner (PAUSD Information Services/Technology Manager) read Oh the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss to Room 9.
  • Gary Fazzino (Palo Alto Mayor) read The Stranger by Chris Van Allsburg to Room 9.
  • Thomas Fortin (PAUSD Network Specialist) read “Sick” from Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein to Room 9.
  • Bob Golton (PAUSD Associate Superintendent, Business Services) read to Room 11.
  • Sharon Hanrahan (Hewlett-Packard) read The Widow’s Broom by Chris Van Allsburg to Room 9.
  • Jan Hustler (BASEE Director) read Worms to Room 1 and Room 2.
  • Rachel Jordan (PAUSD Science Resource Teacher) read to Room 8 and Room 10.
  • Dorothy Kaplan (PAUSD Business Office) read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss to Room 9.
  • Cathy Kroymann (PAUSD Board of Education) read to Room 1.
  • Cathy Lipe (Hewlett-Packard K-12 Education) read a chapter from Harriet the Spy to Room 9.
  • Susie Richardson (PAUSD Board of Education) read A House is a House for Me to Room 9 and Oh the Places You’ll Go, by Dr. Seuss, to Room 1.
  • Marie Scigliano (PAUSD director of Educational Technology) read The Story of the Milky Way, by Joseph Bruchac and Gayle Rossto, to Room 12.
  • Don Way (PAUSD Board of Education) read to Room 1.
  • Wendy Williamson (PAUSD Math Resource Teacher) read to Room 1 and Room 2.

April 17, 1999
Alumni of Barron Park, Creekside, and Hoover Elementary Schools helped us celebrate our school’s 50th Anniversary. Special thanks to Bob French for helping students and teachers prepare exhibits for our museum.
